					View Vol. 2 No. 3 (2026): Sustainability and Financing

This issue brings together a diverse collection of empirical studies, systematic reviews, conceptual contributions and applied case studies that collectively examine how financial decisions, responsible management, technological innovation, institutional practices and resilience interact to shape sustainable development.

An important feature of this issue is its geographical and contextual diversity. The studies draw on evidence and perspectives from emerging markets, China, the Philippines, Africa and Rwanda, among other contexts. This diversity enriches the discussion by demonstrating that sustainability and financing challenges manifest differently across institutional, economic and geographical environments, while also revealing common concerns around resilience, innovation, responsible management and inclusive development.

The theme of this issue reflects an increasingly important reality: sustainability and financing can no longer be considered separate domains. Organisations, financial institutions, governments and communities are increasingly required to make decisions that simultaneously address financial performance, environmental responsibility, social wellbeing, technological change and long-term resilience. The articles in this issue provide valuable perspectives on these interconnected challenges across emerging and developed-market contexts.

The contributions in this issue demonstrate that sustainability is multidimensional. It encompasses responsible investment and ESG practices, financial resilience, digital financial services, inclusive finance, international taxation, trade resilience, entrepreneurship, resource efficiency, infrastructure management and stakeholder engagement. Similarly, financing is not merely a mechanism for providing capital; it influences which technologies are adopted, which projects are implemented, how organisations respond to crises, and whether sustainable development objectives can be achieved.

As the world confronts climate change, geopolitical disruptions, technological transformation, financial uncertainty and growing demands for responsible business conduct, there is an urgent need for research that connects financial and managerial decisions with broader development outcomes. JFMS seeks to contribute to this agenda by providing a platform for rigorous research that bridges academic scholarship, professional practice and policy.

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

The Journal of Financial and Management Sciences (JFMS) requires all research involving human participants, personal data, identifiable information, or animals to comply with applicable ethical standards and institutional, national and international requirements.

1. Research involving human participants

Authors reporting research involving human participants must ensure that the study has received appropriate ethical approval or an applicable exemption/waiver from a recognised research ethics committee, institutional review board, or other competent authority before data collection begins, where such approval is required.

Manuscripts reporting research involving human participants must include an Ethics Approval Statement identifying the approving institution or ethics committee and, where applicable, the approval/reference number. Where formal ethics approval was not required, authors must provide a clear explanation of the basis for the exemption or waiver.

2. Informed consent

Authors must obtain informed consent from participants before their participation in research, where required by the nature of the study and applicable ethical standards. Participants should be informed about the purpose of the research, procedures, potential risks and benefits, voluntary nature of participation, confidentiality arrangements, and their right to decline participation or withdraw where applicable.

Where written consent is not appropriate or cannot reasonably be obtained, the manuscript should explain the alternative consent procedure and the ethical basis for its use.

3. Consent for publication

Authors must obtain appropriate consent for publication where research involves identifiable individuals, personal information, photographs, videos, case details, or other information that could reasonably permit identification of a participant. Identifying information should not be published unless there is a legitimate basis and appropriate consent.

4. Confidentiality, anonymity and data protection

Authors must protect participants' privacy and confidentiality. Personally identifiable information should be removed, anonymised, pseudonymised, or otherwise protected unless disclosure is ethically justified and appropriately consented to.

Authors must comply with applicable data protection and privacy requirements governing the collection, storage, processing, transfer and retention of research data.

5. Vulnerable populations

Research involving children, persons with disabilities, prisoners, refugees, economically or socially vulnerable groups, or other populations requiring additional protection must include appropriate safeguards and demonstrate compliance with relevant ethical requirements.

6. Research involving animals

Research involving animals must comply with applicable institutional, national and international animal welfare requirements and must receive appropriate ethical approval before the research is undertaken. Authors should describe relevant ethical approval and animal welfare procedures in the manuscript.

7. Ethical declarations in manuscripts

Authors must include relevant ethical declarations in their manuscripts. Depending on the study, these may include:

  • Ethics approval;
  • Informed consent;
  • Consent for publication;
  • Data availability;
  • Conflict of interest;
  • Funding statement; and
  • Any applicable ethical exemption or waiver.

The editors may request evidence of ethical approval or informed consent where necessary. Failure to provide satisfactory evidence of ethical compliance may result in rejection, correction, expression of concern, or retraction where appropriate.

8. Ethical review and misconduct

The editors reserve the right to seek additional information regarding ethical approval and research conduct from authors, their institutions, research ethics committees, or other appropriate authorities when concerns arise. Allegations of research misconduct will be investigated in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policy and relevant Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidance.
